Project #3 - "The living room" Part 1 DEMO

Now that we have the backyard and kitchen under control and completed we finally started the living room.  This is a highly anticipated project for the family.  Not only because we didn't like the layout of the current living room but once completed we would feel comfortable having guest over.  Not to mention removing outdated electrical and decor.

I have already had the windows replaced.

With summer that was exceptionally cooler than last year we started on the Demolition of the living room and dry-bar area.  First step was to remove the drop ceiling from the room and rip out the track system that held it up.  It was at this time that we discovered how crappy a job was done with some of the structural replacements and electrical work.

Once the ceiling was removed we then moved onto pulling the panel board from the walls and disposing of it at the dump.  Once we had that gone we started on the plaster on the walls removing all of it from a wall section before starting to remove the lathe.  I have heard from multiple people who have said to not remove it because it provides great insulation.  Well that's only true if it is in reasonable shape.  Ours was not which you can see in some of the pictures.

Plaster removed, make sure to wear a mask for dust.

We only removed to arms reach and then got the ladder out.

The mythical creature in house repairs.

Lathe is almost all gone.

Coldest part of the house.....yeah those holes were behind the panel board.

Hello mister chimney!

You should clean up after everdays work.  Makes starting the next day so much easier.

Worse part of the plaster removal.

Took almost 8 trips to local landfill for a total of around 400.00 bucks.

My truck needs a good cleaning after this.

Dry-bar is next, this was a huge waste of space.

More chimney fun and surprises.

Yes it was just falling apart.

More plaster removal.

Their she is again....

Don't worry that light is going away.
